A Change Gon’ Come

Greetings all!

This will be a quick one from me. Not a lot new going on in my life. Revising is slow and sporadic, but I’m working on that!

I’ve recently purchased a shiny, new domain. ericachapman.com – no don’t go there just yet… LOL I have no idea what I’m doing yet…

Well, here’s the thing. I do like blogger, but was thinking it didn’t offer all the things I wanted, such as tabs for other things, more creativity etc. So I downloaded WordPress. I’m investigating moving this blog over there – again, have no idea how or if it’s possible… but wanted to get your opinion on this potential move before I made it.

I love their themes, very designy (not a word- I know) also it would be my new domain that I would have so – kind of like a one-stop-shop. I really like that!

Anyhoo – I’ve rambled long enough. Also, I’ve been a bit MIA from commenting this week – so sorry – real life got in the way :o)

I’m up over 80 followers! 81 to be exact! Thank you all so much – I couldn’t even have imagined this many people wanted to see what I have to say – you are truly wonderful :o)
Have a great day folks!

  1. Not all that familiar with WordPress, but we’ll follow you wherever! Good luck with the revisions…

Thanks LiLa! You’re too sweet. I have a few people that I know that have WordPress and really like it. I thought, why not? Thanks, I need that luck :o)

  3. I know a lot of people who like WordPress. I’ve just been too lazy to switch.

Good luck figuring it all out!

I’m trying to make the same basic decision at the moment – move my blog to my domain (not wordpress, but a blog with my host), or leave it there, since it’s all set up and linked, etc. Didn’t know if I wanted to leave the easy “follow in Google Reader” thing behind either. Gonna have to do more research.

In any case, you know I’ll follow you where ever, so do whatever will work best for you. πŸ™‚ Happy researching…

  5. Erica says:

Melanie – Thank you! it is a bit of a pain, but in the end I think it will be worth it :o) Will let you know how it turns out!

Jamie – I was wondering if you were thinking about that too. I know, the follow thing will be missed :o( I think streamlining it all will be nice though. Thanks, you’re sweet :o)

I recently did a post on why I switched to wordpress. It was hard at first and I am still learning all the gadgets but it is worth it for the long run and it is getting easier. Hope all goes well with your move. :O)

  7. Erica says:

Thanks Diane – I did read that post – actually I looked it over again last night! I really like the look of WordPress more, so I think it will be aesthetically pleasing and I like that I can have pages as well.

We’ll see how it goes :o) Thanks!

  8. Melissa says:

I don’t know anything about WordPress, either. But I’ll click over there when you do make the switch:)

  9. Erica says:

Melissa – Thanks :o) I hope you’ll like it too!

I have looked into WordPress and have something set up there but not much desire to pursue it. I don’t “Blog” enough to warrant the energy I guess. In fact…I have no idea what purchasing a domain name means.

    I shall lurk and follow your travels….if that’s ok?….dave

Dave – Awww of course, silly :o) It’s like a website of my own, so ericachapman.com would have my writing stuff, music I like, it’s the same as, blogger.com, or joeshmo.com, it’s very confusing and I’m still getting the hang of it…

Will let you know when I go over there :o)

  13. dave says:

Thanks for the visit…every phrase/ sentence is a song title. Thanks! I left you a note over there.
    …later…-d

I have a few friends over at wordpress, and a sister, and they’re very happy. I don’t think it matters, followers follow content, and I’ll look forward to following you there, or here, or wherever.

  15. Natalie says:

Yeah, I agree. I’ll follow you wherever you go. I do like blogger because it’s just easier to follow people, but I can see some plusses with wordpress too.

  16. WordPress is a mystery to me, but I’ll join the follow-you-anywhere bandwagon. πŸ™‚

JD – I’m glad to hear that! Thank you for your kind words. I hope my content is enough for people to come on over :o)

Natalie – I like blogger too – I really do. I love that following people is so easy, but hopefully I will make it as easy as possible for you guys to follow. Thanks I’m feeling so lurved :o)

Karen – It’s a mystery to me right now! LOL Thank you so much!

  18. Annarkie says:

I’m still learning how all this stuff works, so for my own selfish reasons I would prefer you to stay here. =)
However, you should do what’s right for you. Do your homework and make an educated decision on what will best suit your needs. Just be sure to post the links for me so I can find you!

  19. Erica says:

Hey B – LOL… Yeah I’m learning it all too, slowly! Don’t worry, you will always know where to find me ;o)

  20. I like WordPress okay. I don’t like that they don’t have a follower widget. It’s easier for me to follow people who blog on blogger, not that I don’t occasionally go to livejournal and wordpress.

Good luck with the revisions. I’m neck-deep myself.

  21. Eric says:

I’ve always had in the back of my mind that someday (when my book is sitting on a shelf at Borders) I would have my own personal website (i.e. ericstallsworth.com or something). I haven’t messed around with WordPress, but I’ve heard good things here and there. I agree with everyone else though, about how easy it is to follow others on Blogger.

Question (to whomever): Is paying for your own website fairly cheap or is it a decent investment?

  22. Jamie D. says:

It kind of depends on where you go, Eric – mine works out to about $100 a year for both domain and web site hosting (a mid-range package). It’s one of those things you just have to kind of research…and remember to check out company reputations as well as pricing.

As for my blog, I decided to stay with blogger – the links back to my site are too valuable to “break” at this point, I think. Can’t wait to check out your wordpress site though, Erica! πŸ™‚

  23. Erica says:

Elana – yeah I don’t like that either, that’s the reason I’ve been debating this. I really like the freedom of it more… Good Luck on your revisions :o)

Eric – It is easier here. Really, I’ve thought about leaving this and just making it into a website since I only have 1 month of wordpress so far, wanted to try it out first… Looks like Jamie answered your questions well. She’s very knowledgeable :o)

Jamie – Thanks for answering Eric’s question! Thanks, I hope you like it :o)

  24. I am technologically challenged so I have no idea how to answer you other than to say – please provide a link. I can at least figure those out.

  25. Erica says:

Little Ms. J – I’m not that tech savvy either! Don’t worry. I will make sure you all feel right at home ;o)
