The Gateway to Purgatory is by the Big Gulps…

I read a lot of blogs (as do ya’ll, I’m sure) and I’ve noticed something… Some are written more eloquently than others. Now wait… That doesn’t mean that they are better, just something I noticed. Yeah, like mine is eloquent… Ha!

There are many different types out there. Some blogs: use bullets, have a lot of paragraphs, use pictures, are short, longer, some are more serious, some are strange… and you know what?

I love them all, just as they are… (Bridget Jones anyone?) Insert “Awww.”

So. I’m sure all of our writing is different too. Just like our posts.

My writing is similar to my posts, but I have to tell you, it’s definitely not the same. I watch my words very carefully in my stories. I’m sure my voice comes through in my posts and thus comes through in my stories, but there’s more than that… It’s the choice of words, dialogue and places that really make a voice unique.

For example: I chose to make the portal to Purgatory in my NaNo story, “Snow’s Falling,” at the 7-11, I mean, why not right?

So what does that mean about me? LOL! Don’t answer that.

I’m not sure someone else would choose that local, but it popped in my head and was perfect. They are in most places in the US, so it works, and who would expect that the portal to Purgatory would be there next to the Big Gulps and Slushy machine?

So… I’m wondering. What makes your voice unique and do you write like you post?

I only have a half day at work tomorrow! I’m so geeked. Just had to share- by the time some of you read this, my half day will be over, but oh well 🙂

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Monday Blog Feature- Pensive Sarcasm

Okay. After my last post about blogging and how ya’ll do it, I’ve come up with at least Monday’s posts. So… on Mondays I’m going to feature someone else’s blog.

Pic courtesy of

I like this idea, because I follow some great blogs, and I would love to share them with all of you 🙂

So without further adieu- Matt’s blog Pensive Sarcasm

Matt’s a cool dude, with some interesting posts. Most recently, there’s a hilarious post about an encounter his friend Joe had in the bathroom with an agent… a must read!

Matt’s profile info: I’m not really sarcastic, everyone just thinks I am. I just say what I think. So, sorry. I pay my bills flying airplanes but spend my days on autopilot thinking up new worlds, or better things for this one. I write mostly fiction, with one novel complete and many more in my head.

Pop on over and check it out 🙂

So are we cool with this? Do we like this new feature? I’m trying to think of ways to organize, and this was my first thought when Matt said he wanted to gain followers.

I plan to do this every Monday. So look for yours to come shortly!

Have a great Monday 🙂

Blogging- How do ya’ll do it?

I’ve been blogging for a bit now and I’m befuddled.

How in the world do you all post in your blogs everyday! I swear, I’m not that interesting. In fact, I sat here staring at this blank template- wracking my brain to find something to write about.

Let’s see, I watched football today, did laundry… Bo-Ring. So I thought- hey maybe I’ll ask my wonderful peeps how they do it? Sure- that’s the ticket. They could make me an interesting blog poster… Ha Ha

In other news- I did pick a working title. It popped in my head while I was brushing my teeth yesterday- don’t ask me why? LOL
It’s… “Snow’s Falling”

We’ll see if it sticks. For now. I’m satisfied.

So… I read all your blogs (as often as I can) you guys just seem to be more interesting… 🙂 How do you blog every day? For those like me that blog once in a while, how do you find what to say?

Hope the weather is good where you are 🙂

How to pick a Title…

It was a nice day today (well yesterday, I’m writing this at 1:20am), got into the mid sixties! It was my hubs birthday too, lucky guy, it was cold on my birthday- mine’s in April- uh yeah- that’s in Spring- but you wouldn’t have known it this year.

But, I digress- come on Erica get to the point! Okay.

I’ve been trying to pick a title for my NaNo story. I really try to have a working title as I write. For some reason it helps me.

When picking a title, I typically think about what the theme of the story is. I’m aware that if (a big if) this book gets published, the title will probably change anyway, but still, I like it to fit.

I have a couple ideas.

(If you missed the post about the synopsis, you can find it Here)

Since the main character is named Snow-I thought of making it a play on words… something with the word snow? Or since the male lead is in Purgatory, something with that in the title. I just love that word- Purgatory. Sounds so… ominous.

Any suggestions?

Maybe I should just give up on the title search and finish outlining already, but I feel a good title in there, just can’t get it out. You know?

So, how do ya’ll choose your titles?

NaNo Synopsis–>

I’ve been doing some research for NaNo and I’ve finally come up with an idea. Well… a little more than an an idea. I have the whole plot now.

I’m trying this thing now. I’m actually going to research my idea before I write it. Since I can’t write it now, it’s been great having this time. I usually dive in head first, but I have to admit this is easier.

So. I decided since I love to read YA I would use this great opportunity to see how I do with it. Why not, right?

Here’s the idea. This is a seriously horrible synopsis, so please bear with me.

Snow Stansbury- named after her hippy parents saw snow falling outside as she was born- her best friend Liv was murdered at their show choir invitational in Wisconsin. Snow is devestated and determined to find the killer. She meets Vaughn Chase- he’s fresh out of Purgatory and has no memory of his mortal life. He has 2 weeks to solve Liv’s murder or he doesn’t get into Heaven. They start getting threats and as they search for Liv’s killer they stumble on clues to Vaughn’s murder as well. Could they be connected?

There’s more that I’ve come up with, but it doesn’t flow yet in this synopsis.

So… for those doing NaNo- how is the plotting going? For those not doing NaNo- how are your WIP’s?

Have a great Monday… “great Monday” that’s an oxymoron isn’t it… LOL

It might hit 60 over here! I really hope it’s a nice day. It’s the last day I can possibly golf.
