Growing Up

I Thought I’d Be An Astronaut.

‘ello everyone!

I know I don’t normally post on Tuesdays, but I thought- what the heck- ya only live once right? Well, except if you’re in my WIP.

So, my dear mother has been talking about her daughter who wrote a book- which I think is so sweet- well she was telling a friend of hers (mine too- we all golf together) about how I wrote this book.

Her friend (we’ll call her P) has known me since I was a little girl. Well P told my mom that she remembers me telling her that I wanted to write a book. I was 11 years old.

Uh, what? Imagine my surprise when I heard this. You see, I was under the impression I wanted to be a singer or an actress, lawyer, astronaut, you know- easily accessible careers.

So, apparently I’ve wanted to write a book for *cough* years! Hearing that made me even more determined to make this dream a tangible one. And you know what else is cool- P writes too. And with some encouragement from me, she has now written a prologue to her book! Yay :o)

So, I ask you my wonderful followers and variable who’s who of the writing community (Hey some positivity please…LOL), How long have you known you’ve wanted to be a writer?

What up new Followers! And a Howdy Doo to my vintage peeps!

Have a tubular Tuesday everyone :o)

When I grow up…

One simple question: What do you want to be when you grow up? Seems like an easy answer, but it’s not. Not by a long shot. I wanted to be a Lawyer, Astronaut, Singer, Actress, I believed I could be all those things too. I was delusional you see…

I studied Journalism/Advertising in college and even got me one of them fancy Bachelor’s Degree’s. I was all ready to be an Advertising Copywriter *dreams of a corner office- loving what I do every day (still delusional) *twinkle in my eye for the future*

Reality hits me after college *thunk*

Woa- you mean you can’t get a job in advertising anymore unless you are exceptional, had a great internship at an advertising agency, of which there are like two nearby? What nonsense you say?

I became more and more jaded (unfortunetely, no really I’m not a fan of jadedness(?)

That brings me to the present- Thank goodness I have my writing- and in case you were wondering- that is what I want to be when I grow up-

Am I happy with my job?- no, not really- but hey- it’s a job, and I do have a nice office with my own pictures, desk etc. Am I jaded? You better believe it, don’t think that will change. Am I happy about what I’ve chosen to do in my career?- not yet, but hopefully the best is yet to come 🙂

I will leave you with a quote from a great animated tale called Kung Fu Panda (at least that’s where I heard it, may be some old proverb?)

“You are too concerned with what was and what will be. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.”

So… What do you want to be when you grow up?
